There are certain wines that would look out of place at a fancy cocktail party at the Ritz. This is one of them. While I was immediately charmed by the deer label on this young Australian Shiraz, I picture this wine better suited for bringing up to a cottage than for a glamorous night out.
Let's call Are You Game? Shiraz 2012 the more refined option for a weekend in Muskoka. Let's call it the perfect compliment to a cooler filled with micro-brewed brewskis.
This Shiraz is one of the less expensive offerings from Fowles Wine in Victoria. I'm itching to try everything they make, especially their Prosecco. Heck, I wish that the Strathbogie Ranges wine region was just around the corner, because this family-owned winery looks like an incredible place to visit. Is it weird to say I'd consider visiting Australia just to learn more about this winery?
Anyhow, back to the wine itself...
Tasting notes: Spice, Cherry, Pepper, Currants
Pair with: Venison
Cost: $15.95 CDN
Perks: This wine, in my opinion, was meant for drinking in front of a fireplace, preferably with good friends and plenty of boardgames. This wine isn't exactly PC, so I think it would jive well with a game of Cards Against Humanity.
Cons: Not exactly the type of wine you'd gift to the host or hostess of a veggie potluck.
Overall Glossless Rating (based on totally unscientific and arbitrary values): 8.3/10
